SEATTLE, WA / WASHINGTON D.C. – The Initiative for Global Development (IGD) today launched the Jennifer Potter Emerging Leaders Fellowship, a groundbreaking effort to inspire and empower the next generation of African business leaders. The initiative recognizes outgoing President & CEO Jennifer Potter’s ten years of leadership and commemorates the dedication to expanding economic opportunity she demonstrated throughout her career.
IGD will annually select two promising young business leaders working in Africa in the fields of financial services, agriculture, electric power development, or information and communications technology. The organization will seek out individuals, at least one of whom will be a woman, who demonstrate a commitment to lifting lives through business growth and investment.
“I am honored to have my name associated with the dynamic, inspiring young business leaders who will be the future of Africa,” said outgoing IGD President & CEO Jennifer Potter. “They have so much potential before them, and I am thrilled that IGD will be helping them succeed.”
Jennifer Potter Emerging Leader Fellows will become part of IGD’s Frontier Leader network of prominent CEOs and senior executives, including a contingent of nearly 40 highly-regarded African leaders such as James Mwangi, CEO and Managing Director of Equity Bank; Funke Opeke, CEO of Main One Cable Company; and Andrew Alli, President and CEO of Africa Finance Corporation (AFC).
Recipients will be included in IGD’s invitation-only global Frontier 100 Forums and other high-level events throughout the year, where they will participate in small group, peer-to-peer discussions between senior business leaders. The first two Jennifer Potter Emerging Leader Fellows will be announced in June 2013.
“By providing Jennifer Potter Emerging Leader Fellows with invaluable knowledge on operating a successful business in Africa, as well as new skills and connections, we intend to spark ever-greater success for the next generation of African business leaders,” said Mark Green, IGD’s new President & CEO. “These young people represent the continent’s greatest hope and potential for a brighter future.”
